That wasn't perfect, the way riding is in stories. Real horses have their own ideas about things. You have to be a very good rider and trainer before your ideas and the horses ideas come together. You know the saying about great riding--'she was at one with her horse'? I was always 'at two' with my horses.

I learned, through books, how to be a better trainer and rider. In the meantime, I ran out of other people's horse books, and realized, there need to be more of these, and somebody needs to write them. Maybe that could be me. I began in college, and sold my first horse story in my senior year. I've written 34 more books since then, and I'm still riding, still training, still learning about horses and about writing.

I live in a solar cabin in Vermont, next door to the farm I grew up on.

I have two Morgan mares, Robin and Martha, two cats, a dog, and a great husband, Michael J. Daley, who is also a children's book author.
