Yuval Zommer

I graduated from London’s Royal College of Art with an MA in Illustration. After

college I worked for many years as a creative director at some of the world’s

top advertising agencies. Finally my lifelong passion for writing and illustrating children's literature won over, and I am now able to concentrate on what I love most: picture books!

I live and work in an old house in Notting Hill, in London, where I look out over a garden that is often visited by wildlife such as urban foxes, squirrels, birds, and many insects, some of which later find their way into my stories. I like to sketch my subjects first, then complete the illustrations digitally. When I’m not drawing and writing, you’ll find me visiting schools, libraries, and bookstores. The farthest I have ever been to promote my books is a Chinese state school in Shanghai!

I won the Heart of Hawick’s Children’s Book Award in 2015.Hawick is a town in Scotland, and this is my favorite award as the winner is voted for by the town’s primary-schools kids! I was also nominated for the 'Read It Again! Cambridgeshire Children’s Book Award in 2015 and for the Teach Primary New Children’s Fiction Award in 2015 in the KS1 category.

My latest book, One Hundred Bones, was inspired by some of the characterful dogs in

my neighborhood as well as one of my favorite places in London: the Natural History Museum.
