Hi! I was born in 1976 and I live in Yorkshire in the middle of England. When I was a child I loved to draw and paint fun characters and landscapes and I still do now at thirty-six years old! At six years old I was inspired by Roald Dahl’s books, and when I was twelve years old I saw Monet’s drawings, Van Gogh’s paintings, and the Simpsons for the first time! They seem like an odd mix but they really inspired me to draw and paint much more. In fact, I painted the whole Simpsons family onto my younger sister’s bedroom wall! Luckily she liked them! ; )
I went to Loughborough University for three years to learn to draw and paint properly in my own way. Since graduating in 1998 I have been creating children’s books, posters, jigsaw puzzles, and greeting cards. I also visit schools to talk about my work and life as an Illustrator and sometimes an author too.
My Pop-Up World Atlas is published by Templar was my first book for Candlewick Press. It’s funny because I totally failed geography in school and this gave me a chance to learn about every continent and country in a very fun and colorful way!
Three Things You Might Not Know About Me:
1. I love working at night.
2. I love running.
3. I drive a yellow Land Rover!
