Temporary Production Controller
Candlewick Press seeks an experienced print production professional to join our team in a temporary capacity.

Responsibilities include:

- Generate and track schedules, and oversee production for assigned Candlewick-originated frontlist titles from reproduction of artwork to delivery of bound books.
- Liaise with Walker UK and other foreign and domestic publishers to traffic and oversee production of assigned frontlist titles.
- Work closely with designers and editors in planning and project management.
- Weekly reporting of schedules at production meetings.
- Review proofs for corrections/approval for assigned titles, and ensure they are circulated and returned on time to remain on schedule.
- Work with vendors to negotiate costs, select materials, and order color scanning/reproduction and printing.
- Prepare estimates, print instructions or purchase orders, and shipping information through company database.
- Receive and approve advances for assigned titles, and ensure they are distributed in a timely manner to the appropriate distribution list.
- Ensure invoice instructions for assigned titles are entered into company database immediately upon completion.
- Expediently review invoices, resolve any discrepancies and approve for payment.
- Inform Executive Director of any production issues as they arise.
- Perform other tasks as needed or assigned.

Although not all inclusive, the responsibilities above are intended to serve as a guideline for tasks that are performed as part of this temporary position.


4+ years' experience in 4-color book print production required, children's publishing preferred.

Solid knowledge of printing processes and binding is required. Please note this position is purchasing focused -- not a design or production editor role.

Must be proactive, detail-oriented, and possess excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

The ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and efficiently and deal with issues diplomatically and tactfully is necessary.

This is a full-time, temporary position based in our Somerville, MA office. Working an average of 28 hours per week over approximately 14 weeks is expected.
