Design Internships
Candlewick Press, a leading publisher of books for children, offers internships in the fall, spring and summer according to the needs of various departments. An independent publisher, we are a dynamic company that provides excellent opportunities to acquire firsthand knowledge of the publishing industry. We are looking for motivated, conscientious, and dedicated individuals who are eager to learn about the children’s publishing industry and be part of a high-energy, creative team. Internships are determined on a need basis so there is a chance the department may not need an intern each semester.

When feasible, the following internships are offered:

Design- interns assist picture book and fiction designers with scanning illustrator sketches and final artwork, font research, preliminary page set up, and image placement in layouts; they help the Art Department Assistant circulate materials and make book dummies so X-acto and pasting skills are desirable. Other tasks and projects may also be assigned on an as-needed basis. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is required.

Promotions Design - interns assist our promotions design team by working on new and on-going projects to promote our well-loved children's books --assisting with the creation of posters, bookmarks, displays, advertisements etc. so proficiency with MAC programs including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator is necessary.

The desired time commitment is typically about fourteen hours a week. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills as well as attention to detail. Our office is located at 99 Dover Street in Somerville, MA. These positions do not offer any monetary compensation, however in exchange, we offer an invaluable opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the publishing world and make important professional contacts. Internships can be used for college credit. Interested candidates should e-mail a résumé and cover letter specifying the position and semester of interest to the attention of the internship coordinator at interns@candlewick.com. Application deadlines for spring, summer, and fall semesters are December 5, April 5, and July 5 respectively.

To Apply: submit a resume and cover letter (noting salary requirements when applying for a full-time position) via e-mail to interns@candlewick.com, referencing "Design Internships"
